Come Sing with the Summer Choir
The 10:30 Choir will sing formally for the last time on June 25, and rehearsals will not be held on Thursday again until September (last rehearsal is June 22). Please come on the 25th and say thank you to a choir member for their service this past year. However, there will still be singing every Sunday! If you would like to sing with the summer choir, please come any and all Sundays at 9:30, when we will gather to go over the hymns, simple service music, the psalm, and an easy anthem and Communion piece for that day. This is a good chance to try out choir in an even more relaxed way than usual – we will wear our usual vestments…
Volunteers needed for Loaves & Fishes
It's summertime and many of our student volunteers are on break. Can you spare a Sunday in July to help with a meal at Loaves & Fishes, St. Stephen's lunch program? The dates needing volunteers are Sunday July 8 and 29. You can choose from two shifts: Early Bird, 9-11am for food preparation or Late Risers, 11am-1pm for plating, serving, and clean-up. Volunteering at Loaves & Fishes is a great way to serve others, support our outreach program, and get to know folks you might not otherwise meet. To sign up, contact Volunteer Coordinator, Denize Stanton-Williams, email@example.com
Summer Liturgy Format Begins July 2 through September 3
The summer season invites us to slow down, and pare down a bit in our lives. In response, the 10:30 am service will move to a summer format beginning July 2. What will be different?
The liturgy of the Word will include the Old Testament, the Psalm and the Gospel
The Exchange of Peace will take place around the altar
The processions will be simplified
Save the Date-Saturday, August 5, for St. Stephen’s Liturgy Retreat
You are invited to participate in a Liturgy Retreat on Saturday, August 5 from 9:30 to 4 pm. The retreat will take place in the church sanctuary. If you are interested in ANY aspect of liturgy please join us for this day of planning and prayer, as we sketch out our liturgical life for the coming seasons. Please e-mail Mary Alcuin Kelly, firstname.lastname@example.org or sign up on the newsprint in the parish hall by August 1.
L'Arche position available
As part of the Adams Morgan, Washington D.C. neighborhood for over 30 years, L'Arche GWDC's Euclid and Ontario homes are pillars of the community, a sign of unity, and hope for a world where everyone can belong. Along with community leaders, core members, and a team of assistants, the homes are led by a Service Team Leader. The STL leads the team of assistants to provide competent services, through mutually transforming relationships between adults with and without intellectual disabilities.
L'Arche GWDC is currently seeking a leader who will encourage, challenge, and reveal the gifts of core members, and their assistants in their everyday lives, to the wider community, and in particular, to the DC Government Agencies, such as the Department of Disability Services. The ideal candidate will have experience in case management, leadership positions, and a love for L'Arche.
